About the Event

Private equity in Vietnam offers a plethora of opportunities driven by the push to privatise state-owned enterprises and a greater number of companies suitable for private equity investment.  However, private equity in a frontier market such as Vietnam is not for the faint-hearted, fraught with various operational, management, and corporate governance challenges.

In our next Capital Market series event, we are delighted to have Andy Ho, Chief Investment Officer of VinaCapital as our next speaker to share his insights and experience garnered from nearly two decades of investing in Vietnam. As a well-known investor in Vietnam, Andy is the Managing Director of the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (VOF), which is traded on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.  He has deployed over USD1 billion on privately negotiated deals and led over USD700 million in exits via strategic trade sales, and is a leading authority on investing in developing markets, privatizations, and private equity deals in Vietnam, regularly speaking at events around the region, and appearing in the media. Andy has served on numerous Boards in Vietnam, and has recently authored Crossing The Street … “a candid actionable guide to investing in Vietnam”.

Prior to joining VinaCapital, Andy was director of investment at Prudential Vietnam, where he looked after the company’s capital market portfolio and developed its bank investment strategy, which provided a return of four times over an 18-month period. He also served as manager of Prudential’s mutual fund, PruBF1. Andy also held various management positions at Dell Ventures (the investment group of Dell Computer Corp.) and Ernst & Young.

Andy earned a BS in Finance and Accounting from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the US.
