About the Event

The CABC invites our Members, Partners, and Supporters to join our event, “Opportunities in ESG and Sustainable Finance in ASEAN”! This event is held jointly with Manulife, in partnership with the Government of Canada and supported by the 7 Canadian Chambers of Commerce and Business Councils in ASEAN.

Event Background

The focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices has been rising in Southeast Asia, as the region becomes more aware of the impending dangers posed by climate change. In recent years, ASEAN countries have been making large strides in developing sustainability regulations, impact assessment frameworks, green taxonomies, sustainable financing models, and improving overall governance standards in order to improve ESG performance and promote sustainable finance. This includes the development of ASEAN’s Green Taxonomy, SGX’s introduction of ESG-focused listing requirements and sustainability reporting guidelines, and the sovereign funds in countries such as Malaysia and Thailand incorporating ESG into their investment strategies.

As ASEAN countries improve their ability to manage ESG risks and opportunities, many demands will arise for Canadian companies to share best practices and solutions, as well as sustainable investment opportunities for Canadian investors. Beyond sustainable investing, Canada is well-positioned to share best practices and successful ESG strategies with firms, sovereign funds, financial regulators, and stock exchanges in ASEAN to work towards a greener financial sector.

Join the CABC and Manulife to discover how Canada can be an ESG partner for ASEAN in the region’s transition to a more sustainable future. Our distinguished panel of experts will discuss the growing ESG trends in Southeast Asia, and what opportunities these bring for Canadian sustainability start-ups, investment firms, and public organisations.
