CanCham joined "Roundtable meeting between HCMC Leadership & Foreign Business Associations"


Friday afternoon, 17th February 2023, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Vietnam (CanCham Vietnam) was invited to join the “Roundtable meeting between Ho Chi Minh Leadership and Foreign Business Associations”. This event was organized by the Department of External Relations and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee in order to implement plan No. 167/KH-UBND dated January 17, 2023, of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on organizing the implementation of the 2023 topic: "Improve the efficiency of public service activities, accelerate administrative reform and improving the investment environment; promoting economic development; ensuring social security", with the aim of updating the City's socio-economic development vision and orientation in 2023 and the development for the period 2023 - 2025.


CanCham's Executive Director - Mr. Zach Herbers along with Board Member - Ms. Happy Nguyen, General Director of GeoComply attended the meeting alongside representatives from other chambers of commerce and associations in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Roundtable Meeting

Rountable meeting between Ho Chi Minh City Leadership and Foreign Business Associations

The Roundtable Meeting was attended by representatives from foreign business associations and chambers in Ho Chi Minh City as well as representatives from 25 departments in the city including the Department of External Relations, Department of Investment & Planning, Department of Health etc.; the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, the Investment and Trade Promotion Center, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Business Associations etc.


The meeting was chaired by Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.


During the meeting, Mr. Dao Minh Chanh, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Investment shared a presentation on the City's socio-economic development vision and orientation in 2023 and the period of 2023 - 2025.


Following Mr. Chanh's presentation was a discussion between City Leaders and Representatives of Foreign Business Associations on the following topics:

  • Suggestions for the City's development orientation

  • Difficulties and problems foreign enterprises are facing.

CanCham Vietnam was invited to present its views on the current situation of Canadian businesses in Vietnam and the challenges they face. CanCham Vietnam’s representatives highlighted the importance of creating a favourable business environment and providing more support to foreign businesses.


The representatives also discussed the potential for cooperation between the business communities of Vietnam and Canada. They suggested that the two countries should work together to promote trade and investment opportunities, as well as to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise.

The Roundtable Meeting was a great opportunity for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Vietnam to present its views and engage in meaningful dialogue with the Ho Chi Minh City leadership. The meeting provided an opportunity for CanCham Vietnam to demonstrate its commitment to promoting economic development in Vietnam and to strengthening the economic ties between Vietnam and Canada.
