Information for Vaccinated Canadian Citizens to visit Canada

Dear CanCham Members,

While more are getting fully vaccinated in Ho Chi Minh City, many are thinking about visiting home back in Canada in the upcoming months. The Candian Chamber of Commerce has received an increasing number of requests from Canadian citizens who plan to return to Canada. Here are the guidelines provided by The Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City concerning entering Canada for vaccinated Canadian citizens:

Before entering Canada, it is important for all travellers to carefully read the entry requirements by the Government.

There are a few important points to note before returning to Canada:

  • Download ArriveCAN app on your cellphone

  • Get your proof of vaccination translated into French or English by a certified translator and upload it digitally in this app

  • All travellers of 5 years of age or older, regardless of their vaccination status, are requested to submit proof of Covid-19 molecular test results to enter Canada. The test should be taken within 72 hours before the flight departure. Quick tests are not accepted. In Vietnam, you could consider taking a PCR test.

  • If you are a fully vaccinated traveller, you would be exempt from the 14-day quarantine and day-8-testing. The list of Government of Canada-accepted vaccines is included in the above link. Please read it carefully to check if you are qualified as fully vaccinated.

  • If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, AND neither a fully vaccinated traveller nor have any Covid-19 symptoms, you may still be able to enter Canada. To make sure you can enter Canada, answer the quiz at the following link: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/wizard-start

For information on proof of vaccination for travel outside of Canada, please visit this page for the latest information. It is important to note that until a standardized, pan-Canadian proof of vaccination is available, some countries may not recognize or accept the various proof of vaccination documents being issued by Canadian provinces and territories. Canadian travellers may need to get their proof of vaccination translated, notarized, authenticated or legalized to be allowed entry into the destination country and/or access everyday life activities inside the country. This may require documents to be notarized and/or authenticated in Canada and/or abroad. Requirements will vary by country.

The Embassy / Consulate General will share new information with Canadian citizens in Vietnam via the Registration of Canadians Abroad system or on our Facebook. Citizens can register at the following link: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/registration.

Lastly, at this time, due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in HCMC and following guidelines by the local authorities, the Consulate General of Canada to Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City is limiting in-person visits. However, please do not hesitate to further contact the Consular section via this email at hochi.consular-consulaire@international.gc.ca OR by leaving a voice message at +84 (28) 3827 9899. Kind regards, Stay safe and healthy, The Canadian Chamber of Commerce
